The relationship between potentially inappropriate medications use and adverse health outcomes in the older adults：a systematic review
Objective To know the effects of potentially inappropriate medications use on adverse health outcomes in the older adults. Methods The main databases including PubMed,the Cochrane Library,Web of Science,EMBASE,Chinese biomedical literature database,CNKI and WanFang databases were searched from the inception of the database to February 2019. The studies related to inappropriate medications on adverse health outcomes in the older adults were included. Meta-analysis was conducted with RevMan 5.3 software. Results A total of 33 cohort studies were included. The results showed that potentially inappropriate medications use had a significant impact on adverse drug reactions and readmission rates（RR=1.69,95%CI=1.28~2.23,P＜0.001;RR=1.47,95%CI=1.30~1.66,P＜0.001）,but it did not increase mortality（RR=1.02,95%CI=0.98~1.07,P=0.310）. Conclusion Potentially inappropriate medications use is a risk factor for adverse drug reactions and re-hospital admissions in older adults which increases the social and economic burdens.
