The relationship between social support and career decision-making self-efficacy of nursing students in a vocational college
Objective To know the current status of social support and career decision-making self-efficacy of nursing students in a vocational college，and to explore the relationship between social support on career decision-making self-efficacy. Methods A total of 340 nursing students in Huangshan Vocational and Technical College were investigated with the Social Support Rating Scale and the Career Decision Making Self-efficacy Scale. Results The total score of social support was（37.94±5.77），and the total score of career decision-making self-efficacy was（115.81±28.13）. There was a significant positive correlation between social support and career decision making self-efficacy（r=0.169~0.431，P<0.005）. The objective support and subjective support could explain 15.3% total variation of career decision-making self-efficacy. Conclusion Social support can positively predict the career decision-making self-efficacy of nursing students in the vocational college. Nursing educators and managers should take corresponding measures to improve the level of nursing students’ career decision-making self-efficacy and enhance their career decision-making ability.
