Objective To explore the methods and effects of teaching reform in the course of Emergent and Critical Care for undergraduate nursing students. Methods The main measures included inviting clinical experts to participate in theoretical teaching; applying videos and CAI teaching materials, expanding practical settings by sending students to emergency department and intensive care units(ICU),and carrying out scenario simulation in lab teaching. The students took the final theory and skills exam and were investigated with a self-designed questionnaire. Results The mean score of the 127 students in the final exam was(81.80±5.72) and the score of teaching process rated by the students was(134.12±10.65). Conclusion The students’ performance in the final exam is satisfactory and the students gave high appraisal on the teaching process. However, there are still several problems to be solved such as unstable clinical teaching settings lack of effective communication between students and clinical experts,over-emphasizing on the practicability of teaching and discrepancy on the understanding of teaching objectives.
