Abstract

Objective To search and synthesize the best available evidences on management of sleep disorders in older patients. Methods Databases of the Cochrane Library,PubMed,CINAHL,CNKI,Wanfang,ClinicalKey,BMJ Best Practice,Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network and others were searched to collect articles regarding sleep disorders in older patients. Results Sixteen articles including 3 clinical practice guidelines,4 evidence summary,2 expert consensus,2 clinical decision-making,2 position statements and 3 systematic reviews were included. A total of 20 items of best evidences were summarized. The best evidences include general principles of sleep assessment,non-pharmacological intervention strategies and drug management. Conclusion This study summarizes the best evidences for the management of sleep disorders in older patients, which can provide a scientific basis for nurses to prevent and manage sleep disorders in older patients. As the evidence summarized in this study are from many countries, adequate evaluation of clinical environment and other related factors should be carried out before application to promote the improvement of nursing quality.
