Investigation of ideological and political quality in 9 978 nursing students

Abstract:

Objective To identify the current situation of ideological and political quality of nursing students. To provide reference basis for promoting the reform work of nursing students’ curricular ideological and political education. Methods From December 2022 to January 2023, the nursing students from 34 schools in eight geographic regions, Henan, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Guangdong, Anhui, Heilongjiang, Shaanxi, and Guizhou, were conveniently selected for the survey. Demographic questionnaire and ideological and political quality scale were utilized to collect data. Results There were 9 978 valid questionnaires. The ideological and political quality score of nursing students was 152.8±27.74, which was in the upper-middle level. The results of univariate analysis showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the scores of ideological and political literacy among nursing students with different educational backgrounds, university levels, internship/clinical practice experience, student source, student cadre experience, whether nursing was the first choice of major, and political outlook(P<0.05). Conclusion The ideological and political quality of nursing students needs to be further improved. Nursing educators should pay more attention to the ideological and political quality status of nursing students and actively explore diverse curricular ideological and political implementation paths to improve the ideological and political quality of nursing students.
