Design and application of improving the awareness and friendliness of dementia among Macao College students

Abstract:

Objective To design the “Education program to enhance the awareness and friendliness of dementia among Macao college students” and explore its application effect. Methods The “Education program to enhance the awareness and friendliness of dementia among Macao college students” was designed through literature analysis. From November 4,2022 to December 16,2022,a 6-week intervention lasting a total of 12 hours was conducted for 30 college students at higher education institutions in Macao based on the "Problem Solving for Better Health" project for undergraduates of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau. The levels of dementia knowledge,attitude,and willingness to help suspected dementia patients before and after the intervention were compared. Results After the intervention,the score of dementia knowledge was(31.23±7.60),which was higher than that before the intervention(25.17±7.81)(P<0.001);the score of dementia attitude was(29.47±5.51),which was not significantly different from that before the intervention(29.83±4.39)(P=0.610);the score of willingness to help suspected dementia patients was 4(4,4),which was higher than that before the interven-tion 4(3,4)(P=0.026). Conclusion The “Education program to enhance the awareness and friendliness of dementia among Macao college students” can effectively improve the level of dementia knowledge and willingness to help suspected dementia patients among college students.
