Abstract:

Objective To translate and revise the Assessment of Health Related Quality of Life in Osteoporosis(ECOS-16),and test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of ECOS-16 in the postmenopausal osteoporosis patients. Methods ECOS-16 was translated and revised following the procedure of translation-integrate-back translation-expert review. After having modified the questionnaire to adapt to Chinese culture, the reliability and validity of the questionnaire were tested in a convenient population of 216 postmenopausal patients. The reliability was evaluated by internal consistency Cronbach’s α coefficient and test-retest reliability;and the validity was evaluated by exploratory factor analysis(EFA),content validity and known-group validity. Results The Chinese version of ECOS-16 includes 16 items,a total of four domains(pain, physical function, mental function and fear of illness). The Cronbach’s α coefficient for the total questionnaire was 0.909 and test-retest reliability was 0.946. Principal component analysis resulted in a 4-factor structure explaining 83.761% of the total variance. The content validity index (S-CVI) was 0.902. There was a significant difference in ECOS-16 scores between the fracture group and the non-fracture group. Conclusion The Chinese version of ECOS-16 appears to possess adequate reliability and validity, and can be used for the evaluation of quality of life of postmenopausal osteoporosis patients.
